TIMBER CITY

National Building Museum, Washington D.C.

For the Timber City exhibition at the National Building Museum, TSKP x IKD acted as both the curators and exhibition designers. We also designed all graphic content including a custom title font, as well as material installations. The exhibition built upon the 2014 Urban Timber exhibition at the Boston Society of Architects, also curated and designed by TSKP x IKD, examining the recent boom in timber construction worldwide with special attention paid to Cross Laminated Timber (CLT). Through physical installations, the exhibition demonstrated recent innovations in timber technology and examined how US based timber manufacturing can revitalize rural manufacturing communities. Not only did the massive and complex amount of information have to appeal to both the general public as well as industry professionals, but the fact that the exhibition was presented in Washington DC afforded a unique opportunity and motivation to make the content as accessible and useful as possible to policymakers who did, in fact, use the exhibition as a communication tool to advocate for more timber construction in the U.S. through policy change.
